Aterat Event Drafts
Who; Mono and anyone! Open to all!
What; A Network Story and a Log for the event!
Where; All around Aterat!
When; Early August
Warnings; None to start, but if something comes up I will update.
Note; So I'm thinking this could provide some options. The network could be a fun chat story time, the log for after-story experience, or we could mix it up and people could reach out to Mono via the network if they come across Nomes and the log doesn't grab you. Also if you want something personal written up, Iâm happy to do so! My plotting post is over here

Something isn't quite right
Who; Mono and whoever happens to be around
What; Log
Where; Harbor district sewer entrance to start
When; Mid September
Warnings; I will update if specific warnings are necessary. To start I would say: Mentions of solitary confinement/isolation, and abandonment
Note;Mono is now canon-updated to the end of game, and he is not going to be particularly rational atm, so it'll probably take a while for him to calm down and get both himself and his abilities under control depending on the way your character approaches. For more information, see his canon update here.

Canon Update
Character Name: Mono
Current Canon Point: Just after he un-links the train car and is sent careening down a hill to get away from the Man in the Hat
Updated Canon Point: End of Game - He will have spent an undetermined amount of time in that room on the chair, not enough to have completely become the Man in the Hat though.
Personality Changes:
Since Mono is from the end of the game, before his remaining innocence breaks away from his older 'Man in the Hat' self to restart the loop again, a lot of the pain and instability born of his betrayal and solitude that he lacked will be there now.
Mono will be FAR more prone to bouts of anger, especially when things don't seem fair to him. Very similar to how overwhelmed he got during the crystal rain event, the kid's emotions are going to make him slightly unstable sometimes.
And after his battle with the Man in the Hat, and his recognition of the room he builds around him at the end of the game... Mono will have a pretty good idea that he is exactly the thing he's been afraid of all along. Mono is the Man in the Hat, it's his powers that are ruining his world... It's the signal he puts out without realizing it that draws everything in, all eyes on him. The signal tower he lives in amplifies it, spreading it through televisions all over the city.
Depending on the day he'll feel differently about his fate and the continuous cycle he's stuck in. Some days he'll be very revenge minded and feel like he should just accept his fate. Those are slightly dark days where he he wont be afraid to say what he thinks some people deserve.
Other days, Mono's fear about going back to his world will be stronger. He will be more than a little desperate to learn. To find anyone who might be able to help him figure out how to stop the cycle. The part of him that's still an innocent child that wants to be good, that wants to fix everything. That if he tries one more time... Maybe he can get it right. Maybe Six wont drop him next time.
Basically, the boy is going to become more than a little unstable. Very prone to holding a grudge, but also wanting to be good by his definition. That said, he at least hasn't come across anyone who is worthy of holding a grudge against yet. So at least that's a plus...?
Physical Changes:
Not many too much would have changed yet. Probably just a little taller, a little more spindly and awkward looking from being in the signal tower alone for an indeterminate amount of time. The static in his sclera is probably a little more pronounced as well, especially since he's more of a complete version of himself with access to his abilities.
List and describe any new powers obtained: Mono's abilities haven't changed from what was listed in his app, so much as he has a better idea of what he can do and will have a better feel for how to use them. This means he will be way more tempted to try things and to experiment. This could be good or bad, considering how potentially destructive his abilities can get and his unsteady emotions can make them rather unstable.

Mono Network for January
(ooc: Hello! I am happy to say Mono saw one of your characters memories if you tag this, because I think he probably would have run into a lot and not known what to do. I just picked through a few that I think would grab his interest to start from the lists people provided. This is also a good place to have your character approach him about seeing one of his. They can even talk back and forth about each otherâs memories if we want to say they both saw each otherâs.)

Well, he was panicking a little.
Or a lot. It was hard to tell with him sometimes, most of the time he expressed vague discomfort and an honest opinion about something he didnât like.
Today was a little different. Heâd been running messages for work when all this started, and at first it hadnât been too bad. Confusing, yes, but not too bad⊠But then it started to pile up. Too many memories, too many feelings that didnât make sense to the child. He doesnât like it, not one bit. Itâs hard enough to try to figure feelings and how things should be, without this.
And he was pretty sure he wasnât supposed to see any of these things. This all felt like it was private. Private thoughts. Private feelings. Experiences that if he were these people? Heâd want to forget they happened for the most part⊠The bad ones, at least.
So heâd halted his deliveries in a panic and found a place to hide until it all hopefully passed, but he had questions⊠Oh boy, did he have questions.]
I donât know whatâs going on, but I donât like it! Where are all these things coming from? Whyâs the sky throwing other people's thoughts and feelings at me?
[The static interference is a lot stronger today. So perhaps it was easier to tell he was panicking. Monoâs emotions were not in check.]
It feels really bad to see all these things! âCause I didnât mean to look at people's thoughts, I donât even mean just the bad stuff! [A pause and his tone gets very dark as he mumbled.] even if Iâm really mad at the stuff I saw happening to my friends⊠I want bad stuff to happen to the person who was mean to Tommy and also that creepy guy with IllyanaâŠ
But even the nice stuffâŠ?? Some people come from such different places, even from here and itâs⊠Itâs all so weird and confusing?? Some people arenât even the same as they are now, so I think they were older⊠Like Mr. Rhy was really small in one of the ones I saw! Like me! But not⊠It was really nice, like a castle in the fairy tales. [A pause,] And some of itâs not even really people?? Just feelings? Arenât these things supposed to stay in our own heads, not in crystals?
[Another static filled pause occurs as something crosses the boy's mindâŠ]
And I donât want people to see where Iâm from.
[Because no one should see that place.]

Leap of Faith - 951 words
It was pouring out... Mono hated that; the rain was making his paper bag soggy and putting him in a foul mood, considering they should both be feeling quite elated after having escaped the hospital.
Regardless, there was no time for celebration or time for moping. Both he and Six had come to the agreement that they needed to get through the Pale City and to find somewhere new, somewhere better... It was proving to be difficult, though, as he still felt the pull every time he passed a television. Sometimes he got lost in it, but Six always pulled him back out...
Then they couldnât quite agree on where to go next. There were flyers scattered around the trash random boxes that depicted a place that... They thought it was called the Maw. Mono had heard of it before, sometime long ago... Maybe from another kid at the orphanage or perhaps somewhere else. Regardless, Six seemed to think it sounded better than the Pale City if they could find it.
Mono just wanted to find somewhere that they didnât have to keep fighting to survive or to find food. So... It was a work in progress, pros and cons.
They both agreed they should stay together, though. It had taken Six a while to warm up to that, Mono having to prove himself more than once that he didnât intend to abandon her to some cruel fate... But they had proven to be stronger together.
Now, here they were again. On a rooftop trying to figure out how to get across... Even if Six was better at jumping long distances than he was... This seemed a bit of a stretch. So they stared, and Mono looked around quickly.
They needed something... Ah-ha!
âOi!â He whisper-called to her, waving at the clothesline attached to a crank that still had a hanger stuck to it. âWe could use this?â He asked. âI just need you to boost me up!â He added, standing under the ledge to the next level that had the crank attached to it.
Six was... skeptical for a moment, her eyes darting to the hanger and then to Mono. Well, heâd never failed her yet, and he seemed to be a pretty smart kid. You had to be smart to live this long, after all. So she hurried over and cupped her hands for him to put his foot in, then heaved him up with a grunt so he could catch a hold of the ledge.
It didnât take long after that, Mono hurrying to crank the line back far enough for Six to catch a hold of the hanger, then to slowly send her across with a few strong turns of the wheel... Her feet settled on the metal fire escape, and she turned to stare again.
Now what...?
He looked at the clothesline, then at the crank as he realized he perhaps hadnât thought this through enough. How was he supposed to get across...?
Well... There was always the old reliable. Jump and hope you made it... He just needed a good running start, right? âHey! Pssst!â He called across to get his friendâs attention, gesturing to the gap insistently.
Six stared, her eyes widening for a moment as she realized what he was about to do... Well, she wasnât going to argue. It was either do it or get left behind and... the girl decided she probably still needed him. So, grabbing a hold of the edge of the fire-escape ladder, she stretched her arm out and braced herself. âHey!â Six called back, waiting at ready.
And with that, Mono took off at a run. Dashing across the rooftop and throwing himself across the gap, aiming for Sixâs outstretched hand. Thereâs a feeling of fear, a rush of adrenaline, and an underlying giddy sensation. It was exciting, and as his hand wrapped around her wrist and hers around his, it all jolted to a halt as he hung for a moment. âP-pull me up!â He hissed, before reaching up with his other hand to grab the ledge and start crawling up.
Huffing, she tugged and helped him the last bit of the way and they sat there for a moment. Both breathless and processing what theyâd just pulled off as they stared back across the gap. âThat was crazy.â Six commented bluntly, finally looking at Mono.
âMaybe... But I knew youâd catch me and pull me up. You always do.â He responded lightly before tilting his head. âAnd you always will, right?â He asked, a weird sensation prickling at the back of his mind as he asked. Something... Weird... He didnât like it.
âYeah, of course. I need you to reach door handles.â She responded with another huff, as if heâd asked something stupid. She reached over to shove his shoulder lightly to get them to stand up.
Mono let out a little, soundless chuckle at that. Yeah, it was silly to think she might leave him behind. They were a team. Theyâd proved that enough by now...
âLetâs go.â Six added, fingers wiggling to gesture him to get up again.
Mono pushed himself to his feet and started for the ladder. It would only take them up so far... Then, he mused, theyâd have to try the drain pipe. âYeah, letâs get out of here.â

Mono and Six in the toy room - 1,354 words
Picking their way through the hospital, eager to be through this building so they could continue crossing the city, Mono and Six had finally hit a problem. The next door was locked and needed a key... Mono had searched for anything they might use to just break the door down, with no such luck...
So that meant searching the already open rooms for a key. It was an eerie place, but... So far, they hadnât run into anything particularly horrifying or difficult to deal with. Six was a little on edge after having to pull him out of the television again... So as they passed through one room with x-ray equipment and came upon a room full of toys, Mono considered a particularly ugly teddy bear as he wondered how to ease some of the mood...
âHey, Six.â He started, voice coming out in a whisper, âPsst! Six!â he tried again, before hoisting the bear that had been sitting on a table up into his arms and turning to face his friend. âOi!!!â The darn bear was bigger than he thought, feet dragging on the table and its head towering over even his.
"What?" Six, ever the conversationalist, finally looked up from a wooden duck toy she'd been messing with, and stared from under her bangs... Then she tilted her head, the hood of her yellow raincoat sliding slightly. "That's... Really ugly."
Mono let out a soundless laugh, just a huff of air. Something amused, but practised to be silent and avoid being found if there were anyone around. "Right...?"
... Six made a similar sound, folding her arms a bit. "So ugly it's cute." Moving slightly closer to the table, she considered it more closely. "Bet it would make a good bed." Threadbare and ugly as it might be, it was pretty darn big and squishy looking... Not that either of them wanted to try sleeping in this place.
"It would!" Mono responded, squeezing his arms around it and enjoying the vague comfort he got from the feeling... His whisper rising just a little before he hushed himself again. "Too bad we couldn't bring it with us..." But that was impractical, lugging something this big around... Could get dangerous pretty fast if something chased them again.
âYeah...â Six responded with a small scuff of her foot against the ground as her eyes returned to wandering the room, seeming to be caught up in something in her own head again. Mono wasnât sure sometimes... But he had a feeling sheâd been through a lot of stuff that she didnât want to talk about. He could relate to that, considering some of the things that had happened before they met. So he respected her, not wanting to talk about it as long as she didnât ask him about stuff.
Regardless, she didnât seem as tense now... So, it was time to get back to searching. âAlright, Teddy... Gotta put you down now.â He said, finally letting it plot back on the table. Jumping off the edge and landing unsteadily, he began digging through the room with Six properly.
It took a while, but eventually they worked out that one of the plushies (a rabbit that was somehow more ugly than the teddy had been) was heavier than the others, despite being the same size. Dragging it, the teddy, and a dog(?) into the next room, they lined them up in the x-ray machine and Mono jumped to hang off the on switch.
They both stared as the machine sprang to life and revealed that the rabbit plushie was indeed hiding something that the other two werenât. A key...
The key.
âHowâd it get in there...?â Mono asked with a frown from under his paper bag. âYou still question stuff?â Six responded skeptically as she watched the screen go dark as the machine shut itself off. âQuestioning it just wastes time. We gotta get it out.â She moved over to the machine and dragged the rabbit out from between the other two. Tugging at the seams with a small growl.
Mono watched for a moment before he grabbed the arm. âItâs really strong... Letâs try tugging together.â He suggested, before they began a small tug-o-war with the rabbit for about five minutes. Five minutes and nothing.
Six let out a frustrated sound, half growl, half shout despite their usual silence. So much for easing the tension...
Then, then Mono got an idea. âYou know... These places usually have those um... big... Big fire machines?â Incinerator was the word the kid was looking for. That captured Sixâs attention, and she fell silent. Yup, she definitely seemed to like this idea... âLetâs do it.â She responded shortly, getting to her feet and gesturing to Mono to lead the way.
âI think itâs downstairs, I think the elevator can take us.â He responded, hoisting the rabbit into his arms. At least it was the rabbit and not the teddy... Mono wasnât sentimental, but he kind of liked that bear and would have been sad to destroy it. Starting to walk, Six grabbed the back of his trench coat to yank on. âWait!â She hissed, before disappearing into the toy room again.
Mono wobbled to a stop and turned to watch, only for the girl to hurry back out of the room with the wooden duck in her arms. Marching right past him and stopping impatiently at the elevator. âCome on, letâs go!â She whispered shortly.
âUm... Okay.â He awkwardly dropped the rabbit in front of the elevator long enough to tug the switch to get it open before dragging it inside and picking it up again. The doors shut and down it went... The trip was silent. Mono occasionally glancing at Six, and Six just tapping her foot again as they waited for the doors to open again.
When it did, it was quick jog from the door to the incinerator, conveniently open and waiting to be turned on. The rabbit plushie was tossed in quickly, and as Mono went to shut the door, something sailed past his head into the machine. âEh??â He paused, standing on tiptoe to look inside.
The wooden duck...
Mono turned to glance at Six questioningly, âWhy...?â
Six shrugged, tugging him away and reaching up to bat at the door to get it to shut. âIt knows what it did.â Came out, tone deadpan and a casual shrug.
âI donât know what it did?â Mono responded, finally jumping to tug the next switch down so the incinerator could roar to life. A nice, warm glow escaping the grate and heat filling the room. Six held out her hands to warm them, and Mono felt a strange... prickling sensation in the back of his mind. Some would call it dĂ©jĂ vu... Or a premonition... But he felt like this had happened before, or would happen again... Weird.
He was distracted, though, as Six finally gave him a proper answer. She had been puzzling over what to say, but finally whispered back. âIt insulted Teddy.â Short, sweet, to the point. Mono considered the toy duck that was likely turned to ash. âThen it got what it deserved. Teddy is the best.â
Six nodded. âTeddy is the best.â
They both devolved into more of their soundless, whispered laughter after that. Once the machine had been turned off and the key was cool enough to retrieve, Mono tilted his paper bag-covered head at Six. âI wonder what else we can find to burn.â
Six considered this for a moment. âSo much stuff...â
They both nodded and resolved to bring more things if they had to double back again...

Aterat Winter Celebration Drafts
Tree Decorating
Mono still avoided the lodge most of the time⊠But when there was a celebration going on and it was decorated, with more than a few people he knew present, he would venture forth with a little more security. It was a good way for him to get used to the place that shared a similar name with a place in his world where very bad things had happened.
Still⊠The child couldnât help but feel like he was more than a little confused. Perhaps even more than the wedding.
Decorating trees?
This was another strange thing that he didnât quite understand. Trees were outside things! A place for animals like birds and squirrels and other stuff to live in! Why would you bring them indoors? This whole celebration thing was so very odd to Mono, but he was doing his best to learn about it when people talked about it.
Holding up a round, shiny ornament, he looked at his reflection on its surface. âWow, this is shinyâŠâ he tilted his head one way, then another as he watched himself warp slightly in the rounded reflection. âStill kinda strange⊠Like itâs pretty, but weirdâŠâ He mumbled on to himself as he put the ball down and began looking at other decorations. âAnd a little familiarâŠâ
Mono thought he might have seen boxes of these in an attic once. Covered in dust and a few of them broken. But they hadnât really meant anything at the time. Did anyone do things like this in his world before the corruption?
That train of thought was interrupted as he tugged at a strand of garland resting on the floor, blinking a moment later. âShiny colourful rope? Do you gotta tie up the trees too?â
Playing in the snow. - Take your pick of snowmen or snowforts!
Mono was rather enjoying this snow thing now that he had shoes and warming clothing to wear. He even dared to try some of the interesting games heâd seen other children playing last winter when he arrived!
Snow people were still kind of creepy, in his opinion, but rolling the snow and piling it was still pretty fun. So anyone who happened upon the child would be greeted by the sight of about three to four very strange attempts at it. He even put a couple of hats from the collection that heâd stowed away in his coat on their heads, decorating their faces with rocks, acorns or pine-cones heâd found. The one he was currently working on was still taking shape, only one misshapen snowball finished.
If one were to show up later on in the afternoon, investigation might also reveal that heâd built them in such a way that they guarded another particular construct heâd been working on. A snow fort.

(canon) background: https://littlenightmares.fandom.com/wiki/Mono#Little_Nightmares_II
abilities:
Abilities I donât expect to be possible in game but thought it necessary to share for the sake of the app marked with an *
Sneaky: The child often desperate to not be seen by the âadultsâ in his world, as many wish to kill him. Heâs used to quietly âsneaking aroundâ and finding creative places to hide. Climbing up to inaccessible places (roofs, high shelves, light fixtures and vents), using shadowed corners or crawling into tight spaces to avoid capture.
Stronger than he looks: MĂłno is deceptively strong for a kid so scrawny looking. His world is scaled very differently than the average, with his stature being slightly shorter than your standard sledgehammer. Which, when threatened or in need of a getaway, he has the capability to drag around and swing a hammer that large to defend himself and others against attackers. He, like many of the children in his world, are desperate survivalists. They donât tend to go down without a fight.
Problem Solving: MĂłno is actually quite clever and resourceful when it comes to working out puzzling situations in order to get out of trouble or to progress on his journey. He knows how to stand back and look at the world around him to find creative solutions to a problem, often using whatâs found around him.
TV Travel*: While this is probably unlikely to be relevant in Aterat, MĂłno has the ability to travel from one functional tv to another. The TV must be turned on and he doesnât appear to have much control over the ability at this point, the distance seems to be based on how close the TVs are to one another, so the closer the original tv accessed, the more likely it is for him to pop out of that one. Another small sign of how bad he is at controlling his ability is that sometimes his power overloads and breaks the tv he pops out of...
âSignal Tuningâ*: Itâs possible that he is as of yet unaware of this ability from the point in the game Iâve pulled him from. If he does know, I suspect that 1. He doesnât know how to control it and can only tap into it when heâs extremely stressed/upset given when he used it in the game. 2. I believe to do anything terribly powerful he needs the connection to the signal tower to amplify his abilities.
But Mono has the ability to adjust the warped state of the world around him, not unlike when you adjust an old-fashioned television to fix the picture. The buildings (and really his world in general) are incredibly warped by the signal and the âThin Man.â
When he chooses to fight back against both, itâs seen that he can fix the warped and damaged state of things around him. Buildings that were crumbling/crooked suddenly straighten and seem to look a little less worse for wear, as though the signal has been adjusted or time has wound back on the buildings. He also âskipsâ the walk to the signal tower at this point, seeming to warp forward to the point that heâs standing right in front of it. âThe Thin Manâ displayed the same ability, though more controlled, in his pursuit of Mono by seeming to suddenly appear much closer than he was a moment before.
This is something heâs only seen doing once at the end of the game, and only out of necessity. Also considering who Mono actually is, one could argue that he could also use his abilities to warp the world around him as well instead of fix it, and slow things down around him. Again, he probably doesnât know he can do any of this yet.
Personality:
MĂłno is a quiet and shy child, hiding his face behind a paper bag mask for fear of how the world around him will react if they see him. He has a very strong sense that the world around him doesnât like him, and wants him to fail. He doesnât entirely understand why that is, only that most âpeopleâ (or more accurately the soulless husks of those left in the world around him) try to catch and contain or kill him when they spot him. Thus, he doesnât have much reason to talk until he meets Six. Even then, heâs very quiet unless trying to get her attention, probably out of practice when it comes to socializing with others.
That said, while cautious, MĂłno is quite stubborn and single minded when it comes his goals. Despite the challenges and utter horrors that his world throws at him, he continues to push forward and refuses to give up until he succeeds. Even if itâs dangerous, he puts on a âbrave faceâ (his mask) and meets the problems head on.
Whether he needs to get his hands dirty to survive, puzzle for ages over a problem in order to figure out how to proceed, or take what appear to be extreme risks to his person to achieve something he doesnât think twice. This might be because he doesnât always think a plan all the way through before he executes it, such as when he impulsively grabs an ax and starts hacking through the door of the room Six is trapped in at the start of the game in an attempt to set her free. This results in him scaring her and making her run away until she realizes he doesnât actually mean her any harm and that he wants to help.
Of course, some of this might be because heâs quite young and susceptible to the calls of the signal tower. Through much of the game, right up until he releases the âThin Man,â MĂłno is drawn to the pale city and TVs that are left on. He legitimately canât resist the call, as it gives him an incredible headache and seems to call forth his abilities with adjusting the tv signal until he touches the screen. He becomes entirely unaware of the world around him, and needs Six to pull him back to reality before the signal gets him to do whatever it wants.
Despite the fact that the world is very challenging to survive in, and there are many people who are out for themselves and focus more on self preservation than helping... MĂłno is very compassionate and good hearted at this point in his life. Heâs deeply disturbed by some of the things he sees, heart racing and panic apparent through a variety of circumstances.
Not to mention, If he sees someone in trouble heâs quick to try to help them out. Once he cares about someone, he is incredibly loyal and gets very attached. Even when it might be both safer and easier to move on alone, he chooses to save Six on multiple occasions in the game.
Even when it would be smarter to kill a foe, MĂłno occasionally as the option to spare a life and move on without consequence compared to his counterpart who tends to go with what seems like a more sensible option when it comes to survival. Thatâs not to say MĂłno isnât capable of killing, there are many occasions where he proves that if it means surviving he wont hesitate.
At the end of the day, MĂłno is also still very much a child with an imagination and a desire to do what most kids do. He still desires to play games, get into mischief. Even when things are so very serious, he has been known to stop and have a little fun when itâs safe enough. Examples are: Putting a soccer ball on his head and running through the goal posts at the school, playing with a paper airplane he finds as well as a toy paper boat, bouncing around on piano keys to make a chaotic racket, by playing a game of catch with the mannequins (safely trapped behind a bunch of boards) at the hospital.
MĂłno does, of course, have a breaking point. When pushed too far his temper will break, heâll forget about his fears of being seen and will stand up to the âThin Manâ if it means an end to being hunted and saving his friend Six. This hasnât happened yet, but it stands to reason that being pushed and over stressed could result in a breaking of his temper here as well.
