I need a few people. I'm starting this thing, and I need quick, small, smart people to help me. Uh, shit, this is going to be weird to explain. I've never uh, hired people before? Or started a business? But I can't do it all myself.

You know what mail is, yes? Maybe?

It's okay, I've never been hired before either!

I know what mail is. I took a shortcut through a post office once in my world. Got a neat hat and delivered a package before I left it!

You need me to help you deliver mail for your business? I can do that. I'm all three of the things you described! Or, I think I am.

Well, I guess 'smart' sorta means knowing where places are and being able to get there fast and safe. Like, you know the city better than I do probably.

But I need a lot of money to feed myself, and my pet and my other people. So I need a better job than being ONLY a waiter and a gatherer and sometimes helping at the chocobo ranch and farm. So I used to do this courier, package and letter carrying work in my old place. Thought I could start that here too. But more people would help.

[Let him pay you, kid. PLEASE.]

Yeah? I guess I do know how to get places really fast now since I was here longer than you.

[He's thinking though, he recently did have a conversation that had him trying to figure out how to do exactly this.]

Someone at the market told me I should try carrying messages for shops too... But I dunno how to walk up to people to ask without being told to go away. So if I worked for you, I would just have to do the job, right?

[And money for things he needs would be nice, he's been going without a lot beyond food. So, yes, pay the boy!]

I mean, if this whole business idea works, people would come to us with their requests. But we could also arrange circuits to check the major businesses if any of them want to do a standing pay for us. That's something that might work, right?

I'd keep snacks and something to drink wherever we received our instructions, so we have full energy for the work.

[Yes, this would make things a lot easier. Even arranging circuits to check on businesses still meant they could expect someone was coming. It would be way easier to work for someone, rather than just hoping stores would let him run messages for them.

.. And snacks between runs? Totally a bonus that Mono could get behind.]

Hmm… I think it’s a really good idea. I really wanna help! Will you tell me when you have the business done? I dunno how you make businesses.

[Tommy needed mid work fueling, no reason he shouldn't provide to Mono. Especially when he needed to keep snacks there to keep his brother fed. Shit, was he going to be 'big brother' two TWO kids now? Fuck, what is his life?]

Yeah, I'll get it started. My little brother is going to help too. So it's going ot be the three of us to start, if that's okay.

[Tommy had told him he was alone, after all. That was actually kinda nice to hear though, that he wasn't alone now.]

[YEah, he still thinks he's not the greatest big brother to a Billy that is so young an pure.]

Billy? I think I met him at the market! He's nice, if it's the Billy I met.

[Billy was was a fellow kid. They were instantly good and trusted in Mono's book... And he was kinda glad that they had each other. Billy definitely seemed less used to being alone in a strange place compared to him.]

I'm glad you guys can be together here! Better than being alone.

[He had hoped to see Billy again too, just in case he needed help. You didn't leave other kids to fend for themselves, or at least Mono didn't... That was a bad idea in his world. You stuck together.]

If he's a cute kid that is a bit lost in the world, that's him. I'm his older brother.

And yeah, I'd hate for him to be alone, so I'm taking care of him. So I guess you two will work together now.

Oh, wow! Yeah, he seemed kinda lost when I met him... But still really nice. I definitely would like to work with him!

[Well, this sure did all sound a lot better than anything he'd been thinking of before now. It would be nice to be a team with someone again. This world was nicer, but... He still missed his friend a lot.]

[What kind of snacks, huh? Well, Mono didn’t really have the money to explore into too many things yet… But he did know what he liked of what he had gotten to try.]

I like stuff with apples? The baker sometimes gives me the leftover apple turnovers at the end of the day. And I really like the fruit you can get there sometimes?

Yeah, apples are sorta awesome. You ever try turnovers with other fruit? Berries are fucking amazing.

[Mono definitely liked the sound of that. 'Fucking amazing' sounded like extra amazing, after all.]

Are they? I haven’t had them before! I really wanna try them then.

I'll make sure you try some. You got good shoes?

You want some? Because they could be useful for lots of running. Consider it part of your first payment.

[Shoes! How exciting, he was going to need them when the weather changed as it was. Showing up at the end of winter had proven that already.]

No problem. Come by my apartment tomorrow, we'll go find someone that does shoes and socks. And in the winter, I'll get ya a coat too. And gloves. For work use. But if you use them not for work that's fine too.

I'm good at avoiding stuff dangerous for feet! But shoes are pretty neat. I never could find a pair that fit me when I went looking through the abandoned buildings at home.
